Dsps, Gpps, and Multimedia Applications | an Evaluation Using Dspstone
نویسنده
چکیده
The DSPstone evaluation methodology is applied to evaluate performance of xed{ and oating{point digital signal (DSP), and general purpose (GPP) processors with appropriate C compilers. Main goal was to estimate run{ time e ciency on code which is representative for baseband processing in multimedia applications. The results show that for DSP{type code, like FIR ltering, DSP processors are superior compared to GPP processors, both in processor and C compiler performance. Also, it is shown that contrary to an established opinion, C compilers for oating{point DSP and GPP processors introduce signi cant run-time overhead on DSP-type code. This overhead mostly disappears if the programming of xed{ and oating{point DSP processors is done using language extensions.

متن کاملElec 599 : Performance Evaluation of Channel Estimation Algorithms for W-CDMA on Digital Signal Processors
This report shows the performance of maximum likelihood based channel estimation algorithms for W-CDMA on Digital Signal Processors (DSPs). We use the TI TMS3206701 floating point Evaluation Module (EVM) for this purpose. We aim to meet the real-time constraints of the channel estimation algorithms. We exploit the various features available on the DSP by the use of intrinsic operators and assem...

Traditional grid networks employ General Purpose Processors (GPPs) as their main processing elements. Incorporating reconfigurable processing elements in such networks can be a promising technology to increase their performance. In this paper, we propose and simulate collaboration of reconfigurable processors in grid computing. Collaborative Reconfigurable Grid Computing (CRGC) employs the avai...
متن کاملTowards Automatic Parallelisation for Multi-Processor DSPs
This paper describes a preliminary compiler based approach to achieving high performance DSP applications by automatically mapping C programs to multi-processor DSP systems. DSP programs typically contain pointer based memory accesses making automatic parallelisation difficult. This paper presents a new method to convert a restricted class of pointer-based memory accesses into array accesses wi...
